Basic Questions About Wall Mounting

What would the walls look like if there were no screws? Here we explain what you should take into account to place lamps, shelves and more, and above all, so that nothing fails when drilling.

1. First select the screws and the corresponding plugs suitable for the work you are going to do. Usually expandable lugs are used for wall mounting.

2. A drill with percussion is suitable for drilling in classical masonry. If you want to drill into very hard concrete, you may need a drill hammer.

3. Use a tester to make sure you do not accidentally drill electric wires or water pipes. Always wear goggles for drilling.

4. Determine the exact position of the holes and mark with a pencil. A cross-laser level facilitates this task.

5. Choose a concrete drill with the same diameter of the block you want to use. Hold the drill bit firmly centered in the chuck.

6. Place the drill bit perpendicular to the wall. If you do not fully know the characteristics of the wall, drill first without percussion and change once its strength is checked. Wait for the bit to find a firm base to exert pressure on the tool.

7. Drill to a depth such that both the plug and the screw are fully inserted. If necessary, use a depth stop. To extract the drill bit, operate it with a low speed.

8. Remove the formed powder from the perforation. So the taco will catch better.

9. Screwdrivers (with battery) and drills / screwdrivers (with battery) are suitable for screwing. If you only carry out sporadic screw jobs, you can also use the drills.

10. Use the screw tip (screw application) on the tool that fits perfectly to the screw. Otherwise, it may slip when screwing. The Torx screws offer the best support, the cross screws (whose technical term is Pozidriv or Phillips) are generally more appropriate than the slotted screws.
